The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Darien is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.
Testing is being conducted for immediate new hires and to establish an eligibility list for anticipated future hiring needs.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must provide a copy of proof of U.S. citizenship. Eligible documents for verifying eligibility – U.S. Birth Certificate, Naturalization Papers or Passport.
- Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Driver’s License
- Age Requirements: Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday at time of application deadline (10/28/26) or are 20 years of age at the time of application deadline (10/28/26) and have completed two (2) years of law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university. Applicants must be under the age of 35 years old at the last date of filing applications (10/28/26) and time of final eligibility register, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a full-time police officer in a regularly constituted police department of any municipality.
- Education: Must have proof of a High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
- Character: Applicants must be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6. Must not have committed any felony, certain misdemeanors, or crimes involving moral turpitude pursuant to 50 ILCS 705/6.
- Vision: Eyesight must have at least 20/100 vision in each eye correctable to 20/20 and shall not be color blind.
- Hearing: Shall have auditory acuity within a normal range as determined by a licensed physician or audiologist during the physical and medical portion of the selection process.
- Residence: At this time, the City of Darien does not have an established residency requirement.
- P.O.W.E.R. Card: Must possess a valid POWER card issued between 11/14/25 and time of testing on 11/14/26 issued from a certified testing agency.
- Testing: Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing (written, oral, medical, polygraph and psychological)

There is a $35.00 non-refundable application fee.
