The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Lyons is now accepting applications for the position of: Police Officer

Testing is being conducted for an immediate need to hire and to establish a new Eligibility List for future hiring needs.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent resident legally authorized to work in the United States.  Must, under Federal Law, be authorized to obtain, carry, purchase, or otherwise possess a firearm.
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application.
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must be under the age of 35 years old at the time of filing application (10/21/26) and at such time as the Final Eligibility list is posted, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6., which provides in part that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a Certified (full-time) Law Enforcement Officer in a municipality in the United States.  Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (10/21/26).
• Education:  Must have a High School Diploma, GED or High School Proficiency Certificate
• Character:  Applicants must be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.  Must not have committed any felony, certain misdemeanors, or crimes involving moral turpitude pursuant to 50 ILCS 705/6.
• Testing:  Must be able to complete all phases of testing. Must successfully complete a background investigation (applicants will be required to fully disclose all personnel matters, to include agreements and sealed files) Must successfully complete a psychological assessment, polygraph evaluation, medical physical (including drug and alcohol screening).
• Residence:  At this time there are no stated requirements for the residency declared by the Village of Lyons.
• POWER Card:  Must possess a valid POWER Card issued within 60 days of date of hire.
• Preference Points:  Preference points will be awarded for military service and college education.
