Position Details

A diverse community of nearly 20,000 residents located 25 miles south of Chicago, the Village of Homewood is seeking a new Deputy Fire Chief.

The Fire Department protects approximately 5.5 square miles and operates out of one fire station responding to fire, emergency medical services (EMS) and specialized response team calls within the Village. The department is consists of a Fire Chief, a Deputy Fire Chief, 24 full-time employees (3 Captains, 3 Lieutenants and 18 Firefighter/Paramedics), 1 full-time Secretary, and 1 Part Time Fire Inspector. (These figures do not account for the Building Division, which currently reports to the Fire Chief.) The Fire department operates three 24-hour shifts with one Captain, one Lieutenant and eight (8) full-time firefighter/paramedics per shift.

The Village is excited to recruit its next Deputy Fire Chief, reporting under the general direction of the Fire Chief supervising the day-to-day operational activities of the Fire Department. The Deputy Chief will coordinate vehicle and building maintenance, support the Department's mission and objectives, serves as the Training Officer for the Department and oversee all operational divisions (EMS, Maintenance, and Support). The Deputy Chief will also research, implement, and update Department rules, policies, and SOG's. Serves as acting Fire Chief in the absence of the Fire Chief.

The successful candidate:

• Will possess an Associate's degree in Fire Science (Bachelor's degree in Public Administration preferred), or a closely related field, with at least seven (7) years of experience in Fire Department Operations, preferably in municipal government
• A combination of training and experience will be considered for the position
