Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Marengo is now accepting applications for the position of: Police Officer.

Testing is being conducted for immediate hiring needs and for a new Eligibility List for future hiring needs.

The Marengo Police Department has the entrusted duty to protect the lives and the property of all the citizens of Marengo.  The department staff is committed to consistent and courteous public service, efficient investigation and enforcement and rendering emergency aid in times of need.  They continue to bridge the exchange of information and embrace the philosophy of community-oriented policing.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen of the United States or a permanent resident and is legally authorized to work in the United States. Must under Federal Law, be authorized to obtain, carry, purchase, or otherwise possess a firearm.
• Driver’s License:  Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver's License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirements:  Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date of filing applications (9/2/26).  Applicants must be under the age of 35 at the last date for filing applications (9/2/26) and at such time as the Final Eligibility Register is posted, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1 which provides in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a full-time police officer in a regularly constituted police department of any municipality; or are otherwise exempt by State Statute.
• Education:  Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character.
• Testing:  Must be able to participate and successfully complete all stages of the testing process.
• Residency:  Must reside in within a 40 mile radius of the Marengo City Hall within one year of appointment.
• Vision:  Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20, normal peripheral vision, no impairment of color blindness.
• P.O.W.E.R. Card: Candidates are not required to have a P.O.W.E.R. Card to apply and take the written examination. Candidates must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Card from a certified testing agency at time of conditional offer of employment.
