Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Burbank is now accepting applications for the position of Entry Level Law Enforcement.

Testing is being conducted for IMMEDIATE HIRES and to establish a new Eligibility List for future hiring needs.

City of Burbank, Illinois:

The City of Burbank, Illinois is in Cook County on the southwestern edge of Chicago, Illinois. The City of Burbank offers a prime location approximately 12 miles from downtown Chicago, and is bordered by Chicago, Oak Lawn, Bridgeview, and Bedford Park. Burbank Police Department:

The Burbank Police Department was founded in 1982 and has grown to a professionally trained department of 50 sworn officers. Full-time sworn officers include Chief, Deputy Chief, Commanders, Lieutenants, Sergeants, Patrol Officers, K-9 Officer, Evidence Technicians, Detectives, School Resource Officers, Task Force Officers, Interpreters, Emergency Response Team Officers, Accident Reconstruction Team Officers, Field Training Officers, and Range Officer.  Additional civilian support personnel include the records division, front desk personnel, evidence custodians, and code enforcement officers.

The Burbank Police Department strives to enhance public safety, maintain strong police and community relations, ensure professional development by maintaining highly trained officers, and enhance ethical standards. The department currently operates on a 12-hour shift schedule, offering officers every other weekend off to support work-life balance. Burbank Police Officers are represented by the Illinois Council of Police (ICOPs) collective bargaining unit.  The Burbank Police Department is accredited by the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP), demonstrating its commitment to professional law enforcement standards.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen or must provide documentation of authorization to work in the U.S. legally.
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (9/2/26).
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Character:  Must not have committed any felony, certain misdemeanors, or crimes involving moral turpitude and be of good moral character pursuant to 50 ILCS 705/6.
• Residence:  The City of Burbank does not have a residency requirement currently.
• P.O.W.E.R. Card: If an Applicant possesses a P.O.W.E.R. Card, it must be issued between the dates of 3/2/2026 to 9/2/2026.

NOTE: Applicants who do not possess a P.O.W.E.R. Card must complete and pass all requirements of the physical fitness test to be able to take the written examination.

NOTE: Applicants currently certified full-time Police Officers in the State of Illinois or another state and are currently employed as a full-time police officer, are strongly encouraged to apply directly to the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Burbank as a Lateral Transfer.
