Salary:

• Starting:

  • Candidates with no experience or less than 2 years of experience: $83,817
  • Candidates with 2 years of experience: $103,244*
  • Candidates with 3 or more years of experience: $105,754* 

  *At the discretion of the Chief of Police

Position Details

The Northbrook Police Department continuously accepts applications for entry level and lateral police officers.

The Village of Northbrook currently has two (2) vacancies for the role of Police Officer.

To be considered for the current vacancies, we encourage candidates to complete the written examination and submit their application by September 1, 2026.

Testing Process:

• Candidates who achieve a passing score on the written exam and complete all of the application requirements by the deadline will be eligible to claim preference points.
• Candidates will have 10 days from the date Human Resources contacts them to claim preference points.
• A Final Eligibility List will be compiled following claims for preference points and candidates test scores will be valid for 1 year from date of test score.

****LATERAL CANDIDATES****

Test/ Application Fee Waiver:

Lateral candidates may request a coupon voucher by emailing police-hiring@northbrook.il.us their PTB ID number, legal name and confirmation of good standing with their current police department. Good standing is defined as the individual is not currently pending an active investigation or open litigation.

P.O.W.E.R. Physical Agility Test:

Lateral candidates who do not already have a POWER card issued within six (6) months at time of application, may schedule a POWER test with the Police Department, administered by a certified proctor, instead of obtaining a POWER card through another testing facility.
