Base Range: $80,586.57 - $116,228.92

(Currently in negotiations for updated pay schedule for 2025 and 2026)

Stipend - $1,000

Holiday Pay - 80 hours at the overtime rate annually

Position Details

Requirements:

Written Examination
Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT): Each applicant shall provide written proof of having passed the CPAT within the 12 month period immediately prior to the close of the application date.
PST Personal History Statement: Required within 7 days of passing required exam(s)
Minimum Age: 21 at time of hire
Maximum Age: No person who is thirty-five (35) years of age or older shall be eligible to take an examination for a position of firefighter except as otherwise provided by Illinois statute. No person who has attained the age of 35 years shall be inducted into a fire department, except as otherwise provided in Illinois statute. Required at time of hire.
Citizenship: Applicants shall be citizens of the United States or provide proof they are eligible to work in the United States.
High School Grad/ GED
Driver's License Required
Felony Conviction(s) as an Adult: No person shall be appointed to the fire department unless he or she is a person of good character and not a person who has been convicted of a felony in Illinois or convicted in another jurisdiction for conduct that would be a felony under Illinois law, or convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude. No person, however, shall be disqualified from appointment to the fire department because of his or her record of misdemeanor convictions, except those under Sections 11-1.50, 11-6, 11-7, 11-9, 11-14, 11-15, 11-17, 11-18, 11-19, 11-30, 11-35, 12-2, 12-6, 12-15, 14-4, 16-1, 21.1-3, 24-3.1, 24-5, 25-1, 28-3, 31-1, 31-4, 31-6, 31-7, 32-1, 32-2, 32-3, 32-4, and 32-8, subdivisions (a)(1) and (a)(2)(C) of Section 11-14.3, and paragraphs (1), (6), and (8) of subsection (a) of Section 24-1 of the Criminal Code of 1961 or the Criminal Code of 2012.
Felony Conviction(s) as a Juvenile: Not normally, but can be reviewed depending on circumstance.
Ability to Read, Speak & Write the English Language
Vision Requirements: Correctable to 20/40 and cannot have monochromatic vision.

Veterans Preference Points: 5 Preference Points

At least one year of active service in the military service of the United States (i.e. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard)
Honorable discharge or current active/inactive reserve status
Verified DD 214 or proof of current reserve status

Other Preference Points:

First Category 5 points total (not cumulative):

Associate’s Degree from an accredited college/university in the field of Fire Science or Emergency Medical Services (EMS)= (5 points)
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university in any field of study= (2 points)
Verified by a copy of the diploma and certified copy of transcripts

Second Category 5 points (not cumulative):

Illinois State Fire Marshal certified Basic Firefighter= (2 points)
Illinois State License (or National Licensed) EMT = (3 points)
Illinois State License (or National Licensed) Paramedic= (5 points)

Candidate can submit both categories for a total of 10 preference points.
