Position Details

The Village of Alsip is searching for qualified applicants to fill three (3) part-time Community Service Officer (CSO) positions.

These are non-sworn positions responsible for providing general support to the Alsip Police Department and service to Village residents.

Job Description:

• The CSO positions will be responsible for supplementing patrol duties, community policing responsibilities, enforcing Village ordinances and other duties that do not require a Patrol Officer.
• The position requires operation of a fully marked department vehicle.
• Duties include enforcing ordinances, non-criminal complaints, and to remove illegal signs placed throughout the Village.
• This position will also provide assistance to the public, write and issue non-traffic citations, and prepare reports on assigned incidents using computers.
• This position also provides motorist assistance, school crossings, traffic crashes and traffic control.
• This position completes business and premise security checks, and foot patrols.
• The CSO will also assist the Crime Prevention Unit, conduct station tours, fingerprinting individuals for non-criminal purposes, and assisting patrol officers with prisoner processing.
• Will also assist with the police fleet transporting police vehicles for cleaning, maintenance, and repair. 

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Prior public safety experience is preferred but not required.
• Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public.
• Must successfully complete LEADS certification after hire, in addition all other in-house training as directed.
• The ideal candidate will be familiar with public safety, have an interest in serving the community, and be dedicated to supporting the operations of the police department in a non-sworn position.
• They must be able to safely operate Village vehicles in all weather conditions, work under stressful situations involving public contact, and work effectively and independently with little supervision and within the guidelines of standard operating procedures, department rules and regulations, and within the scope of authority for the position.
• Must be available to work a consistent part-time schedule, generally 24 hours per week.
• Availability needed on Days, Evenings and Weekends.
• Availability for flexible schedule is also needed to support emergency and/or other community events.
