Communications Coordinator

The City of DeKalb, IL is seeking a forward-thinking Communications Coordinator to lead the daily operations of the Police Department’s 24/7 Communications Center.

In this role, you will oversee all Center operations and supervise and develop a team of 16, consisting of both telecommunicators and telecommunicator specialists, while supporting coordinated emergency response across police, fire, and EMS services, and ensuring compliance with performance standards.

This position reports to the Deputy Police Chief and requires flexibility to work outside regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call response during emergencies

Qualified candidates will have:

• A high school diploma or equivalent (bachelor’s degree preferred)
• At least seven years of experience in emergency services communications or related field, and a minimum of five years working with communications equipment such as radio systems, 9 1 1 software, CAD, and records systems.
• Strong leadership is required, with preferred experience supervising staff or leading teams, delegating tasks, training others, and providing performance feedback

This role is classified as an emergency response position and includes a residency requirement. Employees must establish residency within the designated area shown on the Employee Residency Boundary Map within fifteen (15) months of hire. Please click here to view the attached map.
