Position Details
The City of Georgetown Fire Department is providing interested candidates with the option to participate in one (1) of two (2) written exam test date options for an upcoming Paramedic Entry Exam:
Candidates can choose to participate in a written exam on:
Saturday, May 30, 2026
OR
Saturday, June 6, 2026
Interested candidates may only participate in one (1) of the available written exams.
Applications will be accepted online until:
11:59 PM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026
Minimum Qualifications:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age on the date of the written exam, and not be forty-five (45) years of age or older at time of hire.
- Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have an equivalency certificate (GED).
- Be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
- Be of good moral character.
- Possess a valid Texas driver's license within 60 days of hire unless extended by the Department Head.
- Be legally eligible to work within the United States.
- Be of good moral character.
- Achieve a minimum passing score of seventy (70) percent on the written examination.
- Pass a background Investigation.
- Successfully complete the physical ability test.
- Pass oral interviews.
- Obtain or possess certifications consistent with this Fire Department hiring policy.
- Successfully complete a post-job offer drug screen, psychological examination and medical examination that includes passing a visual acuity test, and physician certification that the applicant is not dependent on and does not use illegal drugs.
- Paramedic candidates must be a certified or licensed paramedic through the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) or the National Registry to be considered eligible to sit for the Paramedic written examination.
- An EMT-B through TDSHS is eligible to sit for the written examination if the candidate can prove, at the time of written examination, that they are successfully enrolled in a Paramedic program with an expected graduation date of no later than June 30, 2026.
- If from out of State, the candidate must be able to obtain Paramedic certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services or the National Registry prior to the date of offer.
Skill in:
- Reading operations manuals, safety procedures, training manuals, and other materials to maintain certification.
- Writing reports and record-keeping.
- Accurately record drug calculations and timesheets.
- Understanding division procedures and policies.

Check in will begin at 8:00 AM, no one will be admitted into the testing facility after 8:30 AM
Completed Personal History Statements are due immediately following successful completion of the written examination.
Failure to return the completed packet along with required documents following the written exam will disqualify you as a candidate.
For applicants who wish to have military credit of five (5) points added to a passing test score of 70% or better, you must provide a copy of military discharge papers (DD214), member 4 copy, showing 1.) Honorable Discharge and 2.) A minimum of 180 total days of active military service. In order to receive credit on the day of the exam you must bring a copy of your DD214 to the written examination.
Eligibility List Preference will be given to Paramedic candidates that meet the following requirements:
First Preference – Certified or licensed Paramedic through the Texas Department of State Health Services or the National Registry at the time of the written examination.
Second Preference – *Certified or licensed EMT-B through the Texas Department of State Health Services or the National Registry at the time of the written examination, and currently enrolled in a Paramedic program with an expected completion date of no later than June 30, 2026.
*Certified or licensed EMT-B through Texas DSHS that is currently enrolled in a paramedic program with an expected graduation date of no later than June 30, 2026.
Applicants must provide the following at time of written examination:
- Proof of enrollment
- Letter of endorsement from their current paramedic program instructor
- Proof of program graduation date occurring prior to June 30, 2026
