Position Details

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications for Lateral Transfer Police Officer:

Applicants for lateral transfer Police Officer appointments must meet the following minimum qualifications and requirements at the time of application:

• Applicants must be at least 23 years old
• Be a High School Graduate (or GED)
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must have a valid Driver's License.
• Must be able to speak, write, and understand the English language.
• Applicants must not have been convicted of any crime, or be guilty of infamous or notoriously disgraceful conduct {Including but not limited to felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude, as specified in 65 ILCS 5/Article 10-1-7(c)}.
• Must have at least twelve (12) months of service with one or more recognized police agencies and obtained certification through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a full-time officer with current active or inactive status. Anyone who was certified as part-time or who was decertified by the training board will not be considered.
• Must be able to demonstrate physical agility and muscular coordination to perform the duties of the job of police officer.
• Must demonstrate the ability to pass the Illinois Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (Power Test) upon request prior to hire.
• Must pass a polygraph examination, a thorough background investigation, a medical examination, a psychological assessment, and a drug screening.
• Any newly hired employees shall establish domicile and bona fide residence within the following Illinois counties: Cook, DuPage, Kane, Will and Grundy, within six (6) months of their successful completion of their probationary period.
• The Chicago Ridge Police Department will take military experience into consideration.
