JOB DESCRIPTION:


The Village of Glenview is seeking to fill the Public Service Officer (PSO) position within the Police Department.  This is a uniformed, civilian position that helps support the Department’s mission in protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the community. PSOs play an integral role in handling many non-violent service calls, animal control and crime prevention activities. The primary job functions include ordinance enforcement, traffic control, parking enforcement, completing and writing traffic accident reports, assisting motorists, performing courier services, installing child safety seats, enforcement of all regulations, local codes and ordinances related to animal control and animal cruelty.  Additional animal control duties include identifying violations, issuing citations, performing animal rescue, and educating the community on animal care and compliance. The PSO also responds when needed to aid in emergencies and natural disasters (e.g. floods, tornadoes, blizzards). The PSO is also responsible for maintaining accurate records and files.  Additional duties include data entry, filing, and providing exceptional customer service both in-person and via phone. Performs other related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school degree or the equivalent at the time of application.
  • One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Previous PSO or Animal Control experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Must have an overall enthusiasm for public service and a commitment to proudly serve the community.
  • Candidates must possess proficient computer and typing skills, with demonstrated experience using MS Office software.
  • Customer service skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
  • Candidates should also possess the ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, while possessing the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to learn, understand and explain applicable laws, ordinances, and department regulations.
  • Must be able to work flexible full time hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, and sit for several hours while operating a Village vehicle.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must have valid Illinois Driver’s License at the time of application.
  • The following certifications must be obtained within the first three months of employment:
    • Valid Firearm Owners Identification (FOID card)
    • LEADS certification
    • Safety Seat Inspection Certification

Selected employee must pass a pre-employment criminal background screening including but not limited to: fingerprinting, thorough background investigation, and credit screening. Upon completion of a successful background screening, selected employee must pass a pre-employment physical including a drug screening as a condition of employment.


PAY/BENEFITS:


Starting pay is $48,390/year with excellent fringe benefits.

This is a non-union position, and is non-exempt under FLSA.
