The South Barrington Police Department is hiring for the position of Police Officer.
Candidates are required to complete the following by May 3, 2024, no later than 5:00 PM to be considered for the role:
Department Overview:
The South Barrington Police Commission is looking for exceptional candidates interested in joining the ranks of the South Barrington Police Department as full-time police officer. Our standards and expectations are high. Job Requirements:
- Age: At least 21 years old, and under 35 years old, or as permitted by law
- Citizenship Required: Yes, United States Citizen
- High School Grad/GED: Yes
- Valid ILLINOIS Driver's License: Yes
- Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
- College: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university OR an Honorable Discharge from the United States Military
- Successful completion of the Police Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) test on or after May 3, 2023, at one of the following testing facilities:
- Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) in Glenview
- Joliet Junior College in Joliet
- Triton College in River Grove, Illinois

- Schedule and complete the Public Safety Self-Assessment and Frontline National Exam through National Testing Network before the application deadline (https://nationaltestingnetwork.com/publicsafetyjobs/ntn-test-law.cfm)

- Interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners
- Background Investigation
- Polygraph Exam

The application packet consists of a Village of South Barrington Employment Application form and an Authorization to Release Information form.
Please apply with the following documents to receive consideration:
- Signed employment form and authorization to release information
- A copy of your Birth Certificate or Certificate of Naturalization
- A copy of your High School Diploma or GED Certificate
- A copy of your College or University Degree (A sealed and certified transcript of your course work will be required for the background investigation)
- A copy of your Driver's License
- A copy of your U.S. Military DD-214 form, if applicable
- If applicable, a copy of your certificate of completion of Illinois Basic Law Enforcement Academy Training or comparable training from another state
- A copy of the document confirming you passed the POWER test on or after May 3, 2023
Candidates must complete the necessary Public Safety Self-Assessment as well as the Frontline National exam through NTN.

POWER Test:
The Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board established the Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) Test as a physical assessment tool for entry to Illinois police academies. The test was created in recognition of the importance of physical fitness in the performance of essential law enforcement duties.
The test requires police officer candidates to engage in the following activities:
- Sit and Reach Test
- One Repetition Maximum Bench Press
- One Minute Sit-Up Test
- 1.5 Mile Run
The test is graded on a pass/fail basis. Applicants must complete all four exercises to pass the test.
