SCHEDULE:

• Work 5 days, Off 2
• Work 5 days, Off 3

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Age: Minimum of 21 years of age. Applicants may test at age 20, but cannot be hired until age 21.
• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: No prior experience required.
• Driver's License: Applicant must possess a valid driver's license.
• FOID Card: Applicant must possess a Firearm Owners Identification Card.  (Can be applied for online at: https://www.ispfsb.com/)
• Residency: Must live in McHenry County or any bordering Illinois counties, or Kenosha/Walworth counties in Wisconsin, within one year of hiring.

JOB FUNCTION:

Maintain interior and exterior security of a detention facility and persons contained therein, including physically conducting routine and random security checks of detainees/inmates and buildings. 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

All appointments are made by the Sheriff. A one year probationary term applies. All applicants hired, who have not successfully completed the Basic Correctional Officer Training course, must complete a 5 week training course at an approved State facility, at the County's expense.

Examinations which must be successfully completed by the applicant include, but are not limited to the following:

• POWER Test
• Oral Interviews
• Background Investigation
• Psychological Test
• Medical Exam Including Drug Screening
