Salary:

• Up to Step 3 of Patrol Officer Salary Range for commiserate experience:

  • Step 1 = $79,331
  • Step 2 = $86,229
  • Step 3 = $90,763

  Plus a $10,000 signing bonus for newly hired and qualified lateral police officers that can provide proof of resignation from their previous department.

  Proof of resignation is not required to participate in the lateral hiring process but is required for receipt of the signing bonus.

  Leaves of absence will not be approved for the signing bonus.

Position Details

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Minimum age 21, but less than 35 years old, with exceptions to maximum age in accordance with 65 ILCS 3/10-2.1-6 and must not have reached the applicant's 65th birthday in accordance with Section 3.C.4 of the Rules and Regulations of Fire and Police Commissioners.
2. Valid Driver's License.
3. Vision correctable to 20/20 in both eyes.
4. Speaking and understanding English.
5. Pass medical exam including drug screening.
6. Currently in good standing in the police department in which the person serves.
7. Possesses substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a City of Des Plaines Police Officer who has completed the probationary period, as determined by the City.
8. Taken and passed such examinations as the Board of Fire and Police Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a police officer.
