Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Berkeley is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

Testing is being conducted for immediate hiring needs and to establish a new Eligibility List for anticipated future hiring.

The Berkeley Police Department is a forward thinking and progressive department that offers many opportunities and incentives.  Personnel are equipped with the latest tools and technology to assist officers in providing professional and quality service to the community.

• Major Crimes Task Force
• Investigations
• Accident Reconstruction Team
• Mobile Field Force

Officers work 12-hour shifts with every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday off.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S. and provide evidence of intention to become a U.S. citizen.
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must have attained their 21st Birthday by (1/25/23) or are 20 years of age and have successfully completed two years of law enforcement study at an accredited college or university. Must be under the age of 35 at the last date for filing applications (1/25/23) AND when the Final Eligibility Register is posted, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Language: Must be able to comprehend the English language both spoken and written.
• Residence:  At this time there is no stated requirement for residency declared by the Village of Berkeley.
• Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing.
