  • 2 years, 1 day to 4 years of police experience: $63,063.61
  • 4 years, 1 day to 5 years of police experience: $84,536.42
  • 5 years, 1 day to 10 years of police experience: $85,899.40

  A $15,000 signing bonus is also being offered (recapturable unless a full 3 years of service has elapsed with the Chicago Heights Police Department) to all new lateral hires.

  Additional education incentive pay is also available as follows:

  • 15 college credit hours - 0.5%
  • 30 college credit hours - 1.0%
  • 60 college credit hours - 1.5%
  • Associates Degree - 2.0%
  • Bachelor's Degree - 3.0%

The City of Chicago Heights Police Department is seeking experienced police officers for accelerated/lateral hiring.

The Police Department serves a population of approximately 29,500 residents, strong in ethnic, racial, and cultural diversity. In addition to traditional patrol and investigative functions, the Chicago Heights Police Department has a great number of specialty and collateral duties.

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the City of Chicago Heights, Illinois Board of Fire and Police Commissioners:

• U.S. citizenship at the time of application
• No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude, as specified in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6
• High school diploma or High school equivalency/G.E.D. Certificate
• Valid State-issued driver's license 
• Minimum of 21 years of age at the time of application
• Must possess a full-time Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) police officer certification and have previously been a full-time sworn officer of a regular police department in any municipal, county, university, or State law enforcement agency in the State of Illinois. ILETSB Certification must be currently in good standing, and it is preferred that applicant not have been out of law enforcement for a period of more than three (3 years) and subject to ILETSB approval
• Will be required to complete an oral interview, background investigation, psychological, and physical examination, including drug testing
