  Beginning May 1, 2022: A lateral police officer will be hired with a starting salary of $74,985

  After 1 year: $91,053

  The current top pay for patrol officer is $107,382 as of May 1, 2022.

  • All uniform equipment supplied upon hire excluding duty handgun and flashlight
  • Patrol Division works a 12-hour shift schedule.

  The most frequently asked question is pension portability. Pension portability is ONLY available within Article 3 Pension Funds. The Chicago Police Department, The Illinois State Police, and County Sheriff Department’s, would be unable to transfer their pension. Most other suburban Illinois police officers contribute to an Article 3 pension fund. If you first began to contribute to the Article 3 pension fund prior to January 1, 2011, you would remain in Tier 1. If you began to contribute after January 1, 2011, you would be in Tier 2. You may choose to have your pension contributions and a portion of your current departments transferred to the Bolingbrook Police Pension Fund. Bolingbrook Police Department-Lateral Hires

The Bolingbrook Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of probationary police officer under our certified officer entry program. Officers are hired from both an entry officer list and a lateral list depending on the department needs.

The Bolingbrook Police Department currently has an authorized strength of 112 sworn officers. Upon successful completion of the probationary period (18 months for lateral officers) an officer can apply to openings within specialty assignments.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED and 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited institution at time of hire, some military exceptions apply;
• 60 semester hours from an accredited institution, partial exemption available with military service;
• Have vision correctable to 20/20;
• Be a U.S. citizen and have a valid Illinois driver’s license;
• Pass all stages of the hiring process;
• Previous status as a certified Police Officer in the State of Illinois. Currently in good standing in the police department in which the person serves;
• Possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a Village of Bolingbrook Police Officer who has completed the probationary period, as determined by the Village, and taken and passed such examinations as the Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a police officer;
• Must reside within a 30 mile radius within 18 months after hire
