Position Details

The Village of Dwight, resident population of approximately 4,200, seeks police leaders as applicants to serve as this communities next Chief of Police.

Dwight is a vibrant community with 4 square miles of beautiful neighborhoods, parks, and downtown. Dwight is located approximately 70 miles south of Chicago, just off interstate 55 and the nationally recognized historic Rt 66. Dwight has ready access to a brand-new Amtrak Station. Dwight is a small vibrant community offering many opportunities to its residents. Dwight enjoys a K-12 dual school district that is second to none. Dwight has an exceptional low crime rate, with the heart of a big city and the charm of a small town. Dwight is a premiere community in which to live, work and play.

In addition to the Chief of Police, The Dwight Police Department is staffed with 8 full-time officers, Records Clerk and 5 part-time officers. Full-time officers consist of a Sergeant, Undercover Narcotics Officer, School Resource/Detective, Canine officer and (4) patrol officers. The Dwight Police Departments 2021 budget is $1,027,787.00.

Appointed by and reporting to the Village Administrator, the Chief of Police should be a proven leader with impeccable ethics and integrity. 

Successful candidates must possess:

• Certificate from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board
• High school Diploma (Higher Education Preferred)
• Firearms Owners Identification Card
• Illinois class D drivers license 

Experience needed:

• 10 years in Law Enforcement
• Ability to write/apply for grants
• Ability to be a great leader
• Must be a team player
• Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experienced preferred, but not required
