The Chief of Police is responsible for all aspects of administration, financial planning, budget preparation, development of departmental policies and procedures, and supervising all police functions through the control of activities and oversight of all law enforcement sworn and civilian personnel. Work involves planning, organizing, and directing the efficient and effective operation of the Police Department, assuring that laws and ordinances are enforced and law enforcement trends are monitored. This position ensures that the Police Department's mission and service obligations are fulfilled in an efficient and professional manner, and advances departmental long-range planning consistent with Village goals and objectives. The Chief of Police develops and maintains positive working relationships with community leaders, elected officials, service providers, and other law enforcement professionals and emergency services providers. The position fosters cooperative working relationships internally, and ensures proper coordination and communication between and among all department heads, and notably the Fire, Public Works, and Community Development Departments. The position ensures that community needs are addressed and on occasion, assists and/or directs law enforcement in emergencies and disasters, or engages the community through outreach programs.
