Position Details

Testing is being conducted to fill one anticipated full-time Police Officer position in the near future and to establish an Eligibility List for future available positions.

The Board of Police Commissioners for the Village of Hampshire is now accepting applications for the position of: Police Officer

The Hampshire Police Department is charged with the responsibility of enforcement of Illinois law and local ordinances.

To “Serve and Protect” has been the mission statement for many departments and has conveyed a message most citizens understand.  While Hampshire Police also maintain a similar philosophy, they have expanded their mission statement to include “Community Responsiveness”.

Although the police have a duty to enforce the law they also have the responsibility to reduce crime and that cannot occur without direct involvement of the community.

You must meet the following minimum requirements: 

• Citizenship:  Must be a Citizen of the United States or an individual who has permanent resident status and is legally authorized to work in the United States.  Must under federal law, be authorized to obtain, carry, purchase, or otherwise possess a firearm.
• Driver’s License:  Must have a valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain an IL Driver’s License upon hiring.
• Age Requirements:  Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by last day for filing applications (7/9/25). Applicants must be under the age of 35 years old at the last date of filing applications (7/9/25) AND at such time as the Final Eligibility list is posted unless they have been certified and employed as a full-time law enforcement officer for a municipality in the United States or are otherwise exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1..
• Education:  Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) 
• Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character.
• Testing:  Must be able to participate and successfully complete all stages of the testing process.
• Vision:  Eyesight must be correctable to at least 20/20, ability to distinguish color and be void of night blindness.
• Drug Testing:  Must pass drug screening; including testing clear for use of cannabis.
• Residency:  At this time there is no residency requirement declared by the Village of Hampshire.

There is a $35.00 non-refundable application fee.  Applications are NOT available at the Hampshire Police Department or Village Hall.
