Lateral Police Officer

• Previous status as a police officer for one year after completion of a probationary period, and is currently in good standing in the police department in which the person serves.
• Possesses substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a Village of Arlington Heights Police Officer who has completed the probationary period, as determined by the Village.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess an associate degree. In lieu of an associate degree, you must have one of the following:
1. 60 semester hours of credit toward a bachelor’s degree from an institution of higher learning accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. 
2. Have served for 24 months of honorable active duty in the United States Armed Forces and not have been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable. 
3. Have served for 180 days of active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty recognized by the Department of Defense and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable.
• Vision correctable to 20/20 in both eyes.
• Pass a comprehensive pre-employment screening process to include:
• background investigation
• polygraph
• psychological
• medical examination with drug testing

Tattoo and Beard Policy:

Visible tattoos are allowed on a limited basis, tattoos are not permitted on the ears, face, head, hands, fingers (except for single wedding band tattoos) or neck. Tattoos are subject to approval by the chief of police.
