Starting salary for an entry Police Officer: $61,200
Max salary for a Police Officer IV: $96,367.97
The City of Leawood offers career development opportunities in which the employee could increase their experience, training, and pay. The position is eligible to receive merit-based pay increases every year. Employees also receive a Time in Service Bonus every three years of employment on their anniversary date equal to 5% of their annual salary.
Certified police officer applicants hired within one year from graduation of a reciprocity eligible academy may qualify for academy tuition reimbursement up to $7,000. Qualifying applicants must not have been previously sponsored or otherwise employed or compensated as an employee of any local, state or federal law enforcement agency. Eligible recipients must remain a member of the department in good standing and will receive up to $3,000 upon the successful completion of the Leawood Police Training Program, up to another $2,000 upon the completion of the employee's introductory period of twelve (12) months from the date of hire, and up to another $2,000 at the end of two (2) years of service as a Leawood Police Officer. Tuition expenses previously covered by awarded grants or scholarships are not eligible for reimbursement.

Police Officer provides law enforcement and public safety services to the community to include the enforcement of state and local laws, statutes and ordinances, criminal and crash investigation, crime prevention, and traffic enforcement. Areas of assignment include patrol, traffic enforcement, investigations, DARE/SRO and administration.
