Responsibilities:

Respond to alarms to extinguish fires and protect life and property; respond to emergency medical calls during the normal shift and provide basic and advanced paramedic life support services as required.

Residency Requirement:

Upon appointment, Firefighter/Paramedics are required within one year to reside within that portion of Illinois that lies north of Interstate 80.

Qualifications:

• Applicants for this position shall be either [1] licensed Illinois Department of Public Health Paramedics or [2] certified NREMT Paramedics or [3] licensed Illinois Department of Public Health as an Emergency Medical Technician – Basic and enrolled in a Paramedic Program at an accredited degree-granting college or university, at the time of application.
• Candidates must be fully licensed Illinois Paramedics at the time of appointment.
• Applicants must be citizens of the United States of America or legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law or the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process.
• Applicants must have a valid Illinois driver’s license.
• Applicants must have a current (issued within the past 12 months) Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) with ladder climb certificate (due at time of final eligibility list).
• Applicants must be at least twenty (20) years of age, but not have reached their thirty-fifth (35) birthday, as of the last date for filing of applications.
• A copy of applicant’s birth certificate is required to be submitted at the time of application.
• Applicants must have reached their twenty-first (21) birthday, but not their thirty-sixth (36) birthday, by the hire date.

Two Year Eligibility List:

The Streamwood Board of Fire and Police Commissioners will be preparing a 2-year eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic, which will be used for the hiring of all Firefighter/Paramedics for a 2-year period. We currently have openings and anticipate additional openings.

Testing:

The Village of Streamwood offers full testing services for this position through the National Testing Network (NTN).

To register with NTN and schedule a test, go to:

Select ‘Find Jobs’, then select Firefighter Jobs and sign up for the Village of Streamwood.

When you visit the NTN website:

1. Complete the registration process and schedule your test.
2. Review all information related to the Village of Streamwood Firefighter/Paramedic, including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits.
3. Review detailed information about the testing process.
4. Review the Frequently Asked Questions and take an online practice test (if desired).

Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are forwarded to the Village. Candidates who submit a complete employment application and pass the entry-level exam will be placed on Streamwood’s eligibility list. The Village will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to participate in further stages of the selection process.
