    The contract between Teamsters Local 700 and the PHFPD ends in 2024. The department anticipates raising the rates of our Firefighter/Paramedics to a competitive wage with our neighboring departments.

      • All FT members are paid at a rate of 1.5x their normal hourly rate on Holidays. Any FT member who is on a hire back or force back is paid at Double Time on a Holiday.
    • Education Reimbursement
      • The PHPFD offers college tuition reimbursement to members of Local 700.
    • Insurance
      • Blue Cross & Blue Shield. Local 700 members pay 15% of the premium.
    • HSA Contribution
      • The PHPFD contributes $3,000 annually to members of Local 700.

In 2023 the PHFPD residents voted yes to a $10 million dollar bond referendum. The department has ordered (2) new ambulances (arriving in 2025). The PHFPD just took ownership of a new 107’ Pierce Ascendant. The PHFPD is currently working with architects on a 6+ million-dollar station renovation at the headquarters station.

THE PROSPECT HEIGHTS FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT IS SEEKING QUALIFIED CANDIDATES FOR THE POSITION OF FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC.

The Board of Fire Commissioners of the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District (PHFPD) announces a competitive examination to establish an eligibility list for the position of full-time Firefighter/Paramedic for the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District, Cook County, Illinois.

The PHFPD will use the established list to fill vacancies in its full-time staff for a period of two years from the date the list is officially posted.

Qualifications:

  • A citizen of the United States or possess authorization to work in the United States of America.
  • A minimum of 21 years of age and not exceeding 35 years of age unless qualified for a waiver under statutory exemption (70 ILCS 705 Section 16.04b).
  • A valid driver's license
  • At a minimum, a High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate
  • An Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal Basic Operations Firefighter Certificate AND Hazardous Materials Operations certificate.
  • At a minimum, a valid Illinois Department of Public Health EMT-Basic license. Any applicant selected for appointment must also possess a valid Illinois Department of Public Health EMT-P (paramedic) license at the time of appointment.
  • Applicant must obtain Northwest Community Hospital EMS (ALS) System approval before the appointment and must maintain the license and NWCH EMSS privileges during employment.

Physical Agility Test:

All applicants must demonstrate physical agility and muscular coordination by passing the (CPAT) Candidate Physical Ability Test and a ladder climb.

All candidates must present a valid CPAT and a ladder climb card or certificate with the submitted application at the time of appointment. CPAT cards will be considered valid within one year of the date issued. It is the responsibility of the candidate to make sure that their CPAT is up to date. Any candidate not possessing a valid CPAT card at the time of appointment will be disqualified.

NOTE: At the time of the job offer the applicant must be in possession of a valid CPAT card or certificate.

  • Post-job offer background and criminal history investigation

All applicants who pass the written exam will be given two interviews:

  • The first interviews will be conducted on June 19 or 20, 2024.
  • The second interview will be conducted on June 24 or 25, 2024.
  • All interviews will be conducted between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
  • Applicants will be notified of their scheduled interview date and time by the email they supplied on their application. 

The PHFPD is not responsible for any errors in the email address supplied by the applicant. The score on the written exam will comprise 40 percent of the final score. The score on the interview will comprise 60 percent of the final score. Preference points will be added after the Initial Eligibility Register is posted. Upon completion of the interviews, the Initial Eligibility Register will be posted by June 26, 2024, with the Final Eligibility Register posted by July 9, 2024.
