Position Details
The Bedford Park Police Department is accepting applications for entry-level police candidates.
Applicants must meet the following criteria for submission of an application:
- Must be Citizen of the United States
- Must be at least 21 years of age and must not have reached their 40th birthday by the application filing deadline.
- Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent at the time of application.
- Must be able to demonstrate physical agility and muscular coordination to perform the duties of the job of police officer.
- Applicants must provide a valid POWER Test ID card - POWER test cards are considered valid if issued within six months of the date of test which is October 21, 2023. POWER test cards may be obtained from one of the following agencies:
- NIPSTA - Glenview, IL - (847) 998-8090

- Triton College - (708) 456-0300, Ext. 3500
- Vision - Minimum acuity of 20/40, each eye uncorrected and corrected to 20/20. Have normal color vision, depth perception and have no night vision deficiency.
- Must have good moral character and not have been convicted of any felony. Persons with a record of misdemeanor convictions may be disqualified from taking examinations as set forth in 65 ILCS 5/ Article 10-1-7(c). Certain misdemeanor convictions may disqualify candidates for a position on the Police Department. This can be viewed at www.ilga.gov.
- Must be able to speak, read and write the English language fluently, and have the ability to communicate effectively through oral and written skills.
- Must possess a valid driver's license (this will be required as identification at all stages of the testing process).
- Must have the ability to obtain a valid FOID card and be able to safely and accurately discharge a firearm.
- Mandatory attendance is required at orientation and all phases of the testing process.
- Must pass written examination.
- Pass a polygraph examination.
- Pass a thorough background investigation.
- Must pass a medical examination, psychological assessment, and drug screening upon conditional hiring.

Mandatory Orientation and Written Test:
Check-in on October 21, 2023 at 7:30 AM

Check-in is followed by mandatory orientation at 8:30 AM with the written test at 9:00 AM.
Doors will close at 8:30 AM with no late admittance. A driver's license is required for check-in.
