Position Details

The Palos Heights Fire Protection District, Palos Heights, Illinois is accepting applications and testing for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic.

The District will begin the hiring process immediately after the eligibility list is posted.

The Palos Heights Fire Protection District provides Fire and EMS service to portions of the City of Palos Heights, as well as, to certain areas within unincorporated Cook County, within Worth and Palos Townships. The district operates out of 2 fire stations and has an annual run total of approximately 2,000 calls.

Completed applications must be filed in the District Office no later than 4:00 PM on Thursday, September 28, 2023. Applicants must appear in person and supply government identification to pick up the application.

Position Requirements:

• Must be 21 years of age by September 28, 2023, and less than 35 years of age at the time of hire, unless previously employed as a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic.
• Must have Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal Basic Operations Firefighter or Firefighter II certification at time of hire.
• Must possess Illinois Dept. of Public Health (IDPH), Paramedic License at time of hire.
• Must have a minimum of an IDPH, EMT-B license to apply.
• Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License at all times.
• Applicant must be a citizen of the United States or legally entitled to work in the U.S.
• Applicant must have a valid CPAT Card, with Ladder Climb Exercise verified, at time of hire.
• Must have Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal - Fire Apparatus Engineer Certificate within 1 year of appointment.
• Any candidate appointed would be granted six months after probationary period to establish residency within the District's residency boundary of 50 miles from the District's Headquarters, in Palos Heights, Illinois.
• Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, all candidates will be subject to and must pass a complete medical examination, including comprehensive drug testing, psychological exam and a thorough background investigation, before appointment.
