Salary:

• Starting Pay: $30.32/hour ($63,074+/annual)

  Candidates with comparable 911 dispatch experience may qualify for increased rate DOQ/E

Position Details

The Gurnee, IL Police Communications Center provides 24 hour emergency and non-emergency communications support as a consolidated communication center for multiple agencies including:  Gurnee Police; Gurnee Fire; Zion Police; Zion Fire; Newport Fire Protection District; and Beach Park Fire Department.  The Gurnee Police Communications Center responds to over 145,000 emergency and non-emergency telephone calls per year and dispatches over 100,000 police calls and 14,000 Fire/EMS calls annually.

Key qualities for joining our team:

Minimum requirements include:

• US citizen/legal work authorization
• HS Diploma/GED
• Ability to accurately type at least 35 wpm 

Additional desirable qualifications:

• Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification
• Previous recent experience in police and/or Fire/EMS emergency dispatch; security/security dispatch; emergency medical; military dispatch; or closely related fields
• Bilingual skills
• Formal education, certification, or completion of a college level training program in emergency dispatch 

Complete ALL required examinations:

• ECOMM National Exam (must attain minimum passing score for each section to pass)
• Typing Test (minimum 35 wpm to pass)
• ECOMM National Computer Simulations exam through National Testing Network

Priority interview consideration will be given to qualified candidates who have successfully completed and passed all required testing and submitted the application by February 22, 2023.

Eligible candidates may be offered a separate “sit in” and peer interview in our Emergency Communications Center.

If selected for the position, post-offer contingencies include a background check, medical examinations and drug screen.
