Salary:

• Current salary range for this position is $52,873 ($25.42/hour) - $70,928 ($34.10/hour) within seven consecutive anniversary step increases in addition to annual Cost-of-Living Adjustments (COLA) per the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  Experienced 9-1-1 Telecommunicators may be eligible to start at a higher pay scale. This is dependent on review of experience, qualifications, and previous employer employee evaluation.

Position Details

The E-COM 9-1-1 Dispatch Center is a consolidated, multi-jurisdictional emergency communications center located in Homewood, IL serving the Villages of Country Club Hills Police Department, East Hazel Crest, Flossmoor, Glenwood, Hazel Crest, Homewood, Riverdale, South Holland, and Thornton.

General Overview:

Duties include but are not limited to the primary function of a Telecommunicator (TC) is to answer emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance and information.

• Relays information to emergency response personnel, perform emergency medical dispatch, crisis intervention services, and maintains contact with callers until responders arrive.
• Must evaluate and process requests for emergency and non-emergency service in a fast, courteous, and efficient manner using computers, multi-line telephone, radio, or 911 systems.
• Determine and assign the level of priority of the call, enter data into a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) operating system, scan responder status, and record details about the call.
• Must interpret, analyze, and anticipate the caller's situation to resolve problems, provide information, identify the appropriate number and type of equipment or apparatus to dispatch as needed, or refer callers to other agencies.
• Enters and modifies information into local, state, and national computer databases.

Telecommunicators may be subject to stressful and emotional situations. Telecommunicators must work varying hours, including night, weekend and/or holiday shifts in a 24-hour environment. The current 40-hour work week is based on an eight-hour shift depending on coverage with two combined days off and shifts beginning at either 7:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Shift schedules may change on two-month intervals or placement on a permanent shift for the calendar year.

Qualifications:

• Applicants must have High School Diploma or equivalent
• Applicants must be at least 20 years of age
• A minimum of one year of public safety experience
• Applicants must be able to accurately type at least 40 wpm
• Obtain LEADS certification within three months of employment and maintain certification
• Obtain CPR and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certifications within six months of employment and maintain certifications
• Applicants must pass a background investigation, behavioral assessment, psychological evaluation, medical screening, pre-employment drug screening, hearing test and vision test.
