Position Details

The Village is currently seeking a candidate to fill one (1) immediate vacancy for a Full-Time Telecommunicator in the Communications Center; apply immediately.

There is also the potential for an additional position(s) to become available during the year.

The Village is seeking qualified individuals for a Full-Time Telecommunicator position available in the Communications Division of the Vernon Hills Police Department.

Job Summary:

The Vernon Hills Police Department's Communications Center provides both police and fire dispatch services. Police dispatch services are coordinated by the Vernon Hills Police Department, which provides services for Libertyville and Vernon Hills, as well as monitoring, receipt, and transmission of emergency and non-emergency police messages. Additionally, the position involves monitoring and operating of electronic building security systems and providing general information to the public. The position also involves a high level of communication during emergency and non-emergency situations which require the ability to communicate effectively and to employ selective attention in an environment with a variety of distractions. In addition, the individual must possess the ability to perform job duties in a confidential manner.

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma, or equivalent;
• Minimum of one to three years' experience in public safety dispatch;
• Requires ability to type accurately at a working rate of speed;
• Must possess the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and conduct themselves accordingly under stressful situations;
• Requires working knowledge of office equipment, procedures, and practices;
• Requires ability to work independently and efficiently following established guidelines and procedures;
• Requires ability to speak on the phone in a well-modulated voice, using good enunciation and grammar in choice of words;
• Requires ability to perform varied clerical recording and processing functions requiring general knowledge of the office of assignment;
• Requires ability to attend to detail with accuracy;
• Requires ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
• Requires ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with co-workers and the general public;
• Successful passage of a background and criminal history investigation, reference check, and qualifying pre-employment medical examination and drug screen;
• Successful completion of a twelve-month introductory period.
