Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Berkeley is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

Testing is being conducted for immediate hiring needs and to establish a new Eligibility List for anticipated future hiring.

The Berkeley Police Department’s mission is to provide a professional and community oriented police service.  The Department is committed to creating and maintaining an active community partnership and assisting citizens in identifying and solving problems to improve the quality of lives in the Village’s neighborhoods.  In order to promote, preserve and deliver a sense of security, safety and quality services to all members and visitors of the community, the Department takes great effort to maintain a highly trained and professional staff.  The Department is equipped and trained to handle many types of emergency situations ranging from the investigations of criminal activities to handling large-scale disasters.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S. and provide evidence of intention to become a U.S. citizen.
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must have attained their 21st Birthday by (11/10/21) or are 20 years of age and have successfully completed two years of law enforcement study at an accredited college or university.  Must be under the age of 35 at the last date for filing applications (11/10/21), unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Language: Must be able to comprehend the English language both spoken and written.
• Residence:  At this time there is no stated requirement for residency declared by the Village of Berkeley.
• Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing.
• P.O.W.E.R. Card: Must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. (Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report) Card from a certified testing agency, MUST have been issued between the dates of 11/10/20 and 11/10/21.
