Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Riverdale is now accepting applications for the position of: Police Officer

Testing is being conducted for an immediate need to hire multiple new officers, and to establish a new Eligibility List for future hiring needs.

The Riverdale Police Department incorporates the best elements of traditional law enforcement, community policing, hot spot policing, intelligence led policing, and other evidence based emerging practices.  Our strategy will be dynamic and flexible.  It is designed to respond to short-term demands, while institutionalizing long-term strategies that promote sustainability around community safety, police integrity, accountability, and continuous business improvement.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen 
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must be under the age of 35 years old at the last date of filing applications (5/22/19) and at such time as the Final Eligibility List is posted, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6., which provides in part that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a Certified (full-time) police officer in a regularly constituted police department of any municipality, regardless of whether the municipality is located in Illinois or any other state. Applicant must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (5/22/19).
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Residence:  Officers must reside in the State of Illinois and within a 30-mile radius of the Village of Riverdale.
• Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing
• P.O.W.E.R Card:  Applicants must possess a P.O.W.E.R. Card issued between the dates of May 22, 2018 – May 22, 2019.
