MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Rosemont:
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
- Age Requirement: Applicants must have attained their 20th birthday by the application deadline date (September 21, 2026). Applicants under the age of 21 will not be eligible to be sworn in as a probationary public safety officer until they are 21. Applicants must be under the age of 35 years on 3/8/2023, AND at such time as the Final Eligibility List is posted unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6, including qualifying prior full-time police/fire service. Also exempt are candidates employed by the Village of Rosemont as an Auxiliary Officer for a period of 5 years and being under the age of 40.
- Education: Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
- Residence: All Public Safety Officers are required to reside in a permanent abode within the Village of Rosemont and throughout their employment as a Public Safety Officer in Rosemont. Within 90 days of appointment, the applicant must reside or be on a lease within the Village of Rosemont.
- Language: Must be able to comprehend the English language, both spoken and written.
- Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
- Eyesight and Hearing: Both shall be consistent with a level necessary to perform the duties of the position.
LATERAL TESTING & INTAKE PROCESS:
- Lateral transfer candidates ARE NOT REQUIRED to take the written exam.
- Lateral transfer candidates ARE REQUIRED to participate in the oral interview process.
- Lateral transfer candidates are required to obtain a P.O.W.E.R. test card prior to hire.
- Candidates must be able to successfully complete all applicable phases of the hiring process, which may include a medical examination, drug screening and an intensive background investigation.
- Applications must be submitted no later than Monday, September 21, 2026 at 4:00 PM.
LATERAL TRANSFER ELIGIBILITY:
- Must meet all minimum requirements for original appointment to the Rank of Public Safety Officer and all other eligibility requirements established by the Board of Public Safety Commissioners for newly hired employees.
- Must possess all certifications and qualifications required by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and have previously been employed as a full-time certified police officer; OR possess equivalent qualifications from another agency and obtain an ILETSB waiver to serve as a full-time police officer; OR possess all certifications required by Illinois law to be employed as a firefighter/paramedic (EMT) and be or have previously been employed as a full-time firefighter/paramedic in Illinois.
- Must be currently employed as a full-time sworn officer of a regular police or fire department in any municipality, county, university or State agency for at least one (1) year, and in good standing with the agency in which he/she serves for no more than five (5) years.
