Burlington, Wisconsin (10,102 residents). Progressive, mature, growing, full-service community (including Library and Municipal Airport) located approximately 30 miles southwest of Milwaukee and 70 miles northwest of Chicago, seeks an experienced Chief of Police to lead its organization consisting of 33 full and part time employees with a $3.1 million budget.
Nestled along the banks of the Fox and White rivers, Burlington offers a superior quality of life – to live, work and play – to its residents and visitors alike. The community has excellent schools, a thriving downtown and several successful industrial parks.
Burlington is seeking Chief of Police candidates with progressive leadership and command training with a minimum of 7 years in police work (completion of basic law enforcement training academy or equivalent), with 3 years supervisory or administrative experience in upper management positions in a law enforcement agency of similar size and complexity, or larger, as Burlington. Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in law enforcement or related field; Master’s Degree a plus. Ideal candidates should possess strong leadership and communication skills; experience in police operations/supervision, budgeting and personnel management; understanding of community policing, grant administration and crime prevention/intervention strategies; and experience in labor relations.
Starting Salary:
up to $82,000 DOQE
Appointment by the Board of Police and Fire Commission; reports to Mayor. Residency required.
