Minimum Requirements for a Police Recruit:
Candidates must pass a written examination and physical agility-screening test, and be willing to undergo an extensive background investigation that includes personal, educational, military, driving, employment, and financial histories. Once a conditional offer of employment is made, candidates must submit to a psychological assessment, polygraph, and medical exam. Lateral Transfers: If you are currently a Police Officer or were recently laid-off, you may be eligible for a LATERAL TRANSFER and will not need to take the written examination or physical agility screening test. Please submit a copy of your certificate stating that you are certified as a police officer along with your application. Starting salary for lateral transfers will be determined based upon the number of years of service you already have. The written exam is an entry-level law enforcement multiple-choice exam.
You will be tested on report writing, reasoning ability, observation, and memory
skills. The fitness test consists of four parts—flexibility, sit-ups, push-ups, and 1.5 mile run.
