Applicant Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizen between the ages of 21 and 44. Applicants 45 years of age or older may take the exam only if he or she has at least five years prior experience as a peace officer or five years of military experience. Persons 45 years of age or older are not eligible for a beginning position as a police officer.

  • Applicants must have 60 accredited college credit hours from an accredited college or university. Accreditation must be from one of the regional associations of colleges and schools as follows: (MSACHE, NEACHE, NCACHE, NWASC, SACSCC and WASC); OR

  • Three years active military experience with an honorable discharge; OR

  • Be eligible for certification from TCLEOSE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standard and Education) and have at least two years peace officer experience for a city, county, state or federal law enforcement agency (Military Police experience is not considered regular full-time peace officer experience).  Visit our website for details on the Lateral Entry Program.

 

Applicants with felony convictions will not be considered for employment.

  

Applicants cannot be on probation for any offense on the date of the civil service test.

 

Applicants must possess a valid Texas driver's license and have no more than two events (moving violations or accidents) in the 24 months preceding the date of application.

 

Out of state applicants may apply, but must obtain a Texas driver's license upon employment with the city.

 

Applicants cannot have a DWI/DUI within 120 months preceding the date of application.

 

No applicant may be certified as eligible for appointment to the position of police officer whose drug usage does not comply with those standards set by the City of Grand Prairie Civil Service Commission.

 

 

All applicants must provide the following documentation at time of application: (Faxed applications and required documents are welcomed) 

  • Copy of Birth Certificate AND

  • Copy of College Transcript demonstrating 60 hours OR

  • Copy of Peace Officer License  

  • Form DD-214 - Applicants with military service will have 5 points added to their raw test score provided they submit a DD-214 stating an Honorable discharge
