The El Paso Police Department is seeking experienced law enforcement officers to join El Paso's finest. The El Paso Police Department is comprised of 1,100 officers and 300 civilians who proudly serve the El Paso community.
Police Officer (Lateral Transfer) Hiring Information
The filing period for the anticipated August 2011, eight-week lateral academy is April 14, 2011 thru May 6, 2011. Out of state applicants must obtain their State of Texas (TCLEOSE) license by date of appointment.
Starting Salary:
$37,242.98 up to $60,751.34 commensurate with full-time experience
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
One (1) year full-time commissioned police officer experience in law enforcement, or graduation from the El Paso Police Academy.
Licenses and Certificates:
Basic Peace Officer license by TCLEOSE in compliance with state statute by time of appointment. Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.
Special Requirements:
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years old by time of appointment.
Hiring Process:
Applicants must pass a written examination, job simulation test and comprehensive background investigation to include medical and psychological examinations as well as drug screening and a polygraph examination in order to be placed on the eligible list and considered for hire.

Under general supervision, perform assigned municipal law and ordinance enforcement and crime prevention duties which include maintaining a recognizable community presence to preserve peace and order, protect persons and property, and otherwise provide allied police services requested as well as precisely documenting evidence, circumstances and actions regarding actual and potential criminal violations or other public safety related incidents.
