OTHER INFORMATION

To serve the needs of the mass transit riding public, DART created its own police department in September of 1989. Since its inception, the department has grown to over 200 sworn officer positions and 44 non-sworn civilian positions. DART Police officers are vested with all the rights, privileges, obligations, and duties of peace officers in the state of Texas. DART services over 700 square miles, in six counties, and 13 cities in the Dallas metropolitan area.

Because the DART Police Department is a rapidly growing department, there are many opportunities for promotional advancement and special assignments (i.e., motorcycles, bicycles, investigations, training, intelligence, etc.). Additionally, employees are allowed to annually choose their shift assignments and supervisor based on seniority, and with seniority constantly increasing due to growth, preferred shifts are quickly available.
