QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To be considered for
employment as a trooper, you must satisfy the following requirements:
AGE: Minimum of 21 on the date of the written examination.
DRIVER LICENSE: Must possess a valid Tennessee driver license.
EYESIGHT REQUIREMENTS: Minimum visual acuity of 20/100 in each
eye, separately without glasses and each eye corrected to 20/30 or better with
corrective lenses.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED equivalence. (Note: The
education requirement is currently under review and may change before the next

CRIMINAL HISTORY: No conviction of a felony or of a misdemeanor
reflecting moral turpitude.
WRITTEN EXAMINATION: Applicants must pass a written civil
service examination and obtain a competitive score.
ORAL INTERVIEW: Qualified applicants will be interviewed by an
oral interview board.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: Applicants must satisfactorily pass a
thorough background investigation, including a check of state and federal
records.
DUTY ASSIGNMENT: Applicants must be willing to accept
assignment in any county. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must pass a physical examination, a physical agility test, a drug test, and a psychological examination.
