The Community College of Southern Nevada has three full time openings for the position of University Police Sergeant for a newly forming police department.  Applicants must be able to work any shift, weekends, and holidays.  In order to receive consideration, applicants must indicate their availability to work in this geographical location.  The results of this recruitment may be used by any other agency to fill subsequent vacancies.

Responsible for:

• Supervising and assigning work for a staff of officers

• Reviewing case reports

• Evaluating personnel

• Providing training

• Investigating accidents and incidents

• Conducting initial and follow-up criminal and back-ground investigations Preparing written reports

• Organizing and managing special events

• Patrolling

• Enforcing laws, rules, and regulations

• Providing testimony, among other duties

• Requires holiday, weekend and shift work

The minimum qualifications for this position requires:

• Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of journey level law enforcement experience; OR

• Associate of Arts degree or equivalent coursework in criminal justice, psychology, police science or closely related field and one year of journey level law enforcement experience; OR

• Two years of experience as a University Police Officer II in Nevada State service

Additionally, applicants must have graduated from an accredited law enforcement academy and meet Nevada P.O.S.T. requirements.  Candidates must be currently P.O.S.T. Category I certified or have the ability to possess certification within one year of application.  A copy of the NV P.O.S.T. Category I certification must be submitted with application; OR P.O.S.T. Category I certification over two years old will be accepted from applicants with previous police officer experience.  Out-of-state Category I basic in-lieu certification can be accepted from states with reciprocity.  Also positions require the use of concealed weapons (ex-felons are not eligible)

1. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this class have been identified as affecting public safety.  Persons offered employment in this class must first submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances

2. Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code

3. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment

4. Applicants may be subjected to additional medical, psychological, vision, hearing, and polygraph testing which may include polygraph testing

Will consist of a physical agility test (height by vertical jump – 14 inches; sit-ups in one minute – 15; push-ups – 18; 300 meter run – 77 seconds; 1.5 mile run/walk – 17 minutes 17 seconds).

Candidates successfully completing the physical agility test will proceed to the interview.  Qualified applicants will be notified of the date, time and location.
