The City of Rio Rancho (pop. 90,818) is seeking an exemplary leader to manage a dedicated team of public safety personnel. The position reports to the City Manager and oversees a staff of 239 employees with an annual budget of $17.6 million. The department provides a full range of services to include; Law Enforcement, Code Enforcement, Animal Control, Victim Advocacy and a Regional 911 Center.
The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded professional who values collaboration, teamwork, citizen participation, accountability and open communication. The successful candidate will have the ability to form strong interpersonal relationships, work collaboratively with all City departments and citizens, the ability to solve complex problems with innovative solutions, and maintain high service levels within finite resources.
A Bachelorís Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business Administration or related field is required, and 10 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, 5 of which must have been in a supervisory capacity in the State, County or Municipal level. A Masterís Degree is preferred.
The City is located in Central New Mexico, adjacent to Albuquerque. The City boasts magnificent views of the Sandia Mountain range, excellent schools, and a temperate climate. The City has a Council Ė Manager form of government. The City Council consists of a Mayor and six Council members, elected for staggered four year terms. The City Manager is responsible for administering the day-to-day functions of the City with a staff of over 850 full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees with an operating and capital budget of over $125 million, with revenue primarily from gross receipts taxes.
