Minimum Requirements for All Applicants:

• HS Diploma or GED

• At least 21 years of age

• US Citizen

• Successfully complete physical and psychological exams

• Pass initial drug and alcohol screening and subsequent random drug and alcohol screening

• NM drivers license within 30 days of employment and ability to maintain thereafter

• No convictions for felonies, domestic violence or other crimes of moral turpitude

• No convictions for DUI within the last 3 years

• Submit to background investigation and FBI fingerprint check

• NM Law Enforcement Certification within one year of employment

• Must live within 40 statute miles of the Los Alamos County Municipal Building within six months

Additional Corporal Requirements:

• Two years law enforcement experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility

• NM Law Enforcement Certification or ability obtain certification by waiver within one year of employment

Los Alamos Police Department:

• Academy paid at 40 hours plus some overtime

• Uniforms provided by Department

• Take home cars (after probationary period) for those residing in Los Alamos County

• Physical agility requirements waived for laterals that are certifiable in NM

• Court time paid at a minimum of 2 hours OT

• Four 12-hour shifts followed by four days off
