The Nebraska State Patrol is accepting applications for the position of Trooper.

 

 

Requirements:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen and age 21 by January 7, 2005

  • Possess a High School diploma or GED

  • Your vision must be correctable to 20/20 in each eye

  • Normal hearing in each ear

  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license

  • Sound mental and physical condition

  • Good character

  • No felony or certain misdemeanor convictions

SELECTION PROCESS:

 

To be selected for employment, you must pass a written general knowledge test, participate in an oral interview, a psychological exam, a polygraph exam, a medical exam, and eye and hearing exams.  If you are selected, you will begin employment in an intense 6-month para-military setting basic training camp.  Currently, the next camp is scheduled to begin August 2, 2004, in Grand Island.  Candidates are required to stay at the academy from Sunday evening through Friday afternoon each week.
 


INITIAL DUTIES:

 

Working with communities to improve public safety, enforcing traffic laws, investigating crimes, enforcing the laws and rules and regulations on motor carriers (heavy trucks and buses), and enforcing drug laws.

A wide variety of law enforcement career opportunities for those officers with two years of service including: Drug Interdiction; SWAT; Accident Reconstruction; Executive Protection; Capitol Security; Police Service Dogs; Bomb Technician; Air Wing Enforcement; Training Academy; Narcotics; Liquor/Tobacco Enforcement; Hazardous Materials Response; and Criminal Investigation.
 

COMPENSATION:

 

Starting salary is $2,099.64 per month which begins in basic training camp.  Excellent career benefits include sick and vacation leave, uniforms, paid vacation, retirement program, and more.
