The City of Scottsbluff is seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Police Chief.

The successful candidate must possess demonstrated leadership skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, high integrity, and demonstrated success in community policing principles. This individual must have the ability to promote and lead an agency committed to strong community service orientation, as well as oversee and administer the department budget. 

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration or a closely related field; OR a two-year degree in the aforementioned fields plus 6 years experience in law enforcement.

In addition, extensive successful experience as a Police Officer with a minimum of five years experience as a supervisory officer in a law enforcement agency and formal training at a state or national police academy are also required. 

Valid driver's license, good driving record and computer skills are a must.

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will participate in a written exam and a series of oral interviews.

Scottsbluff has a population of approximately 15,000 and is the largest city in the western panhandle of Nebraska. It is the center of commerce for a large region encompassing a primary market area of 50,000.

In addition to desirable living conditions, fine schools and excellent shopping facilities, Scottsbluff is the home of Western Nebraska Community College, a two-year institution offering a major in Criminal Justice.  A center for business and individual training is under construction. A Bachelor's degree through a neighboring State College is also available on the local campus.
 

The Scottsbluff Police Department is headquartered in a new, modern facility at 2525 Circle Drive. It is a full service, well managed department that enjoys strong community support and is equipped with quality resources. Continued emphasis on training and education of the personnel is stressed. The department's authorized strength is 32, including the Police Chief, 7 Lieutenants, 3 Sergeants, 18 Patrol Officers and 3 Detectives.
