Chief of Police, Fayetteville, North Carolina (population 174,000), a progressive, growing, and diverse community ideally located between the mountains and beaches of North Carolina, seeks a dynamic Chief of Police to lead a professional and dedicated Police Department staff and work in partnership with the community to address quality of life and safety issues. Fayetteville is a nationally recognized, "All- America City" with a revitalized, historic downtown district and is proud to be the home of Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base.

The Fayetteville Police Department has been accredited by CALEA since 1989 and was recently re-accredited "with merit." The Fayetteville Police Department has a staff of 543 full-time sworn and civilian personnel and an annual budget of $40.5 million. The Chief is appointed by and reports to the City Manager. The Police Chief is responsible for all police operations, emphasizing community policing, crime prevention, and partnerships with City stakeholders. The Chief is also a member of the City's Senior Management Team.

Candidates must possess excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication and management skills, understand the dynamics of working in an urban and diverse community, and be committed to staff development and training. Candidate should also have experience and/or strong skills in employee relations, budget preparation and management, and building and maintaining active community partnerships. Experience in a community with a significant military presence a plus. A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible police supervisory and administrative experience and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in criminal justice or related field required.

Starting salary $130,000 +/-, DOQ.
