Northfield Police Department

Vibrant two-college community located on the southern edge of Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area that is well known for educational excellence, historic character, large manufacturers, and a charming downtown.

Position reports to the police chief and is responsible for management and development of all functions of a division of the police department, including but not limited to:

Directing day-to-day operations
Assisting with budget preparation
Organizational planning
Providing communications to the chief, outside agencies, and others
Directing officer training
Establishing performance levels
Conducting performance reviews
Develop policies and procedures that ensure effective and efficient achievement of organizational goals and objectives
In the absence of the chief, a captain may be assigned to assume the chief’s duties

Qualified candidates will possess:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Eight or more years of continuous experience as a law enforcement officer with an uncompromised record of increasing responsibility and achievements
Three years at a rank of sergeant or above
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
