Public Safety supports the university community by providing services and programs that contribute to maintaining reasonably safe and secure campuses.
The Police Officer is responsible for contributing to the safety and security of the university community by providing protective services which includes patrolling university grounds and buildings to prevent and detect crime as well as enforcing state laws, local laws, university regulations and providing other related public safety services. She/he must receive, upon hire or promotion as well as annually, training on the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Process and its requirements, Ethics, Harassment, and the Department's mission, values, and goals.
The successful candidate will have the ability to apply the experience, knowledge and skills learned to support the department's mission to develop a safe and secure environment in an academic institution. She/he must be able to fully understand the community policing philosophy and the principles of crime prevention. He/she must also be committed to professional development and understand how it supports the department overall.
A minimum of one year of full time experience as a law enforcement officer or other acceptable related experience, ideally in a campus environment is highly valued.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Individual must be willing to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays and to report for duty at any time.
