Part-time Police Officer


This position supplements the full-time patrol force and is responsible for the protection of the life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, and the enforcement of laws and ordinances. A significant portion of time involves public contact where discretion and tact is conscientiously exercised. Duties are performed in accordance with police procedures, practices, standards, general orders, and regulations.

Job Duties:

  • Patrols to observe, prevent, or terminate unlawful acts.

  • Assists in transporting, booking and monitoring prisoners.

  • Responds to traffic or other accidents. Secures scene; gives first aid and calls for medical assistance. Collects evidence, information and completes reports.

  • Directs traffic. Enforces parking restrictions, conducts crowd control, and prevents blockage of public access.

  • Operates radar unit; issues warnings or citations. May conduct tests for intoxication.

  • Searches buildings, residences, and surrounding areas for criminal suspects.

  • Responds to requests for mutual aid.

  • Serves warrants or summons.

  • Assists in protecting and/or processing crime scenes.

  • May assist in suspect interrogations; make court appearances.

  • Provides foot patrol during Village events such as Good Old Days and the Criterium bike race.


  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.

  • Possession of Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board certified Police Officer credentials.

  • Must have prior experience as a Police Officer and left past Department in good standing.

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours (days, afternoon, nights, weekdays, weekends, holidays).

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local civil and criminal statutes and ordinances.

  • May not be employed as a commissioned Police Officer at another governmental agency.

  • Ability to meet physical requirements.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and render objective decisions.

  • Ability to complete accurate reports, maintain required certifications.

  • Have a valid Class D Illinois driverís license.

Schedule and hours:


A variety of shifts, including weekend and holidays with a minimum of 24 hours per month.





$22.00 per hour
