Chief of Police

Full service Village located 25 miles from Chicago in the heart of west suburban DuPage County is seeking candidates for the position of Chief of Police. CALEA accredited agency in 1999. Appointed by the Village Manager with consent of the Village Board. $6 million operating budget, 69 full time employees (46 sworn and 23 civilian). Department located in new building with state of the art telecommunications center.

Westmont is a thriving residential and business community conveniently located within minutes of five major expressways and within 30 minutes of Chicago’s O’Hare airport. The Village encompasses 5.5 square miles, is home to four elementary schools, two middle schools and Westmont High School.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, public policy, business administration or related field desired

• 7-9 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience including at least 5 years of administrative command experience, OR any equivalent combination of training, education and experience

• Proven experience in addressing current public safety issues with a strong orientation toward community oriented policing

• Specific experience in addressing issues in a community that includes a healthy business environment, single family homes, a significant number of multi-family apartment dwellings, and an increasingly diverse population

• Strong innovative administrative, financial/budgetary, operational and labor relations skills as well as superior leadership skills very important

• Successful candidates must be approachable, with a desire to be visible in the community
