Full-Time Telecommunicator

The Village of Westmont is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Telecommunicator. A Telecommunicator is responsible for handling telephone, radio and computer based emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire and EMS service.  The Telecommunicator operates a variety of communication equipment including computer dispatching, 9-1-1 telephone lines, Emergency Medical Dispatching, alarm boards, Motorola radio consoles and similar devices. Computer knowledge and proficient typing skills are a must for Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) entry.  Both the Westmont Police and Fire Departments are highly regarded nationally accredited agencies. 

Applicants must be available to work various shifts and hours, must possess the ability to function in a multi-task environment under stressful situations, and have above average memory recollection and a demonstrated ability to make correct decisions quickly when operating under stressful conditions with limited information. 

The Village of Westmont and the Westmont Police Department have a strict no smoking policy that places significant limitations on an employee’s ability to smoke while at work.  In light of this policy, applicants who smoke may want to reconsider whether this position would be a good fit.

• Applicants selected for further processing will be required to pass a written examination tentatively scheduled for 8:30 A.M., Saturday, July 26, 2008.  The written test is designed to evaluate basic job related knowledge, skills and abilities.

• After the written test is scored, the selection panel will review the applications of the top ranked applicants and select approximately twelve candidates for interviews. 

• Interviews will be conducted on July 30 and 31 and August 1, 2008.   

• Applicants selected for the job will undergo an extensive background investigation and a post offer physical that includes a drug screen.

Starting salary for this position is $20.85 per hour based on applicant’s qualifications.
